FRIDAY 17 JULY 2026> 7.30 P.M
INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED JAZZ-FUNK PIONEERS SHAKATAK RETURN TO JERSEY FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL LIVE PERFORMANCE.
With over 40 years of success and more than 50 albums released, Shakatak have built a unique sound blending jazz, soul and funk, earning both global recognition and a devoted following. Led by original members Bill Sharpe, Jill Saward, Roger Odell, George Anderson and Keith Winter, the 6 piece band delivers a dynamic, groove-driven live show renowned for its musical excellence and energy.
Their latest album, Eyes of the World (2023), confirms their enduring creativity and international appeal. Off the back of a tour across Japan, South Africa and Europe, Shakatak is touring the UK and now heading for the Channel Islands. Because of the nature of their music their fan base is one that is far reaching while always retaining an “underground” element. This paradox sees the band, who are known primarily for their musicality, enjoying both high “cult” status and instant recognition as a household name due to their numerous hit recordings.

Standing in the heart of St Helier, the Jersey Opera House is one of the Channel Islands’ most celebrated cultural landmarks. Its story is one of resilience and reinvention, shaped by more than 160 years of entertainment history. The venue traces its origins to the Royal Amphitheatre, which opened in 1865 following the destruction of the original Theatre Royal.
Renamed the Theatre Royal and Opera House, it quickly became a centre for opera, operetta and live performance. After a devastating fire in 1899, the theatre was rebuilt in an elegant Art Nouveau style and reopened in 1900 with a performance by the renowned actress Lillie Langtry. A second fire struck in 1921, after which the building was restored and adapted to the age of cinema. During the German occupation of Jersey in the Second World War, the theatre continued to operate as a cinema before returning to public life after Liberation.
Following an extensive restoration programme led by the States of Jersey, the Opera House reopened on 9 July 2000 — exactly 100 years after its celebrated reopening in 1900. Today, it remains Jersey’s premier performing arts venue, hosting a diverse programme of music, theatre, dance, comedy and live entertainment.
